Shishu Sarothi works to protect and uphold the rights of persons with disabilities as guaranteed by law. Through curated capacity-building programs and awareness sessions conducted at the invitation of other stakeholders, we reach out to rights holders and duty bearers alike — including bureaucrats and civil servants — building understanding of legal mandates and disability rights. Over the years, this work has reached more than 50,000 stakeholders.
We provide pro bono legal aid and have supported 40-50 litigation and public interest litigation cases, helping redress grievances and violations of the rights of persons with disabilities across a range of issues. A network of over 70 disability-related organizations and organizations of persons with disabilities across the north eastern region continues to share information and work together on disability issues.
As an empanelled Access Auditor with the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, under the Accessible India Campaign, we also conduct access audits of public buildings and premises.
